Dear Check Casher,

We hope you were able to join us for the Thirteenth Annual Conference and Vendors Show, sponsored by the Financial Service Centers of New York, Inc., on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the New York Marriott Brooklyn Hotel. The day was devoted to a General Membership meeting, vendor exhibits, seminars, featured speakers and an awards luncheon.

The highlights of the Show were:

  • Presentation by Deputy Superintendent Regina Stone, New York State Banking Department;
     

  • General Membership meeting with nominations and reports from all of the Committee Chairmen provided an update on industry and association matters, i.e., fee increase, bank discontinuance, General Counsel report, assessments, etc.
     

  • Presentation of awards to the winners of the FSCNY/Travelers Express/MoneyGram Scholarship Program;
     

  • More than forty (40) vendors showcased their latest products and services;
     

  • Compliance Seminar specifically geared to compliance officers and management that addressed the intricacies of complying with the USA PATRIOT ACT.  The New York State Banking Department has been stressing the need for suitable compliance programs and independent examinations.  The Seminar included presentations by an IRS representative and
    Scott McClain, FSCNY Counsel;
     

  • Commercial Check Cashing Seminar that addressed the technicalities of cashing “commercial checks,” including the necessary safeguards to be put in place.  The presentation was made by Robert Rochford, Esq., a member of the FSCNY team.
